Home improvement might refer to any kind of renovation and addition or alteration done to your home, and beautification of the space you live in, and spend most of your day in, is an integral part of the home improvement process. There are lots of ways you can change the whole look of spaces inside your house, be it the living area, or the bedrooms, or maybe the basement too. There are definitely no hard and fast rules on how you can create a better look for your home, and there is all the freedom to run away with your imagination and get adventurous. You are restricted only by your budget, though there is something for everyone. However, we have for you a set of basic ideas which you can build up on, to revamp any space in general, but your living room in particular.

This is a rule of thumb which works well for just about any room, but this one step can change the way your living room looks and feels. Paint the walls a different color. You can try a shade that is entirely different from what you had before, but stick to lighter hues if it is a small room. You can try darker colors in a larger space. If you really want a deep rosette or perhaps a burgundy, and your room is not spacey, you can keep that color restricted to the longest stretch of wall you have and have the other walls done in a contrasting shade of say, cream or beige. The idea is to do away with whatever colors you had before and get a new color scheme.

We don’t imagine many people can afford to throw away all their old furniture and get a new set, but you can make small changes to your existing things. For instance, if you have a rectangular coffee table, you can use your skills as a carpenter to get it shaped into a square. You could add a few chairs here and there, which won’t cost you too much money. You can fashion a low futon from an old bed, and a chaise lounge from your grandmother’s huge rocking chair.

To brighten up your living room on a low budget, change the upholstery. If you had light walls and darker curtains, you can shift to light soft furnishings with hints of an accent tone here and there. You could do soft honey curtains, checkered ones maybe, and get cushion covers in bright red. Sometimes, random cushions in a range of shapes, sizes and shades can go a long way in the transformation.

If you want an instant change, simply throw around knick knacks and accessories you picked up any odd time. A painting by your son can jazz up a plain wall, and your daughter’s figurine collection will look great in that tiny alcove. Add a few family photographs and a lampshade here, a crystal vase there, and you are ready to enjoy your new living room.
